Where's my hovercraft? and other things I thought would happen by now.

I did expect a world a little more like The Fifth Element by now. But, one thing Geology taught me is that change is S-L-O-W. Looking at the movement of different continents and the forming of different supercontinents (like Pangaea) and how long it took was awesome to me.
I think that Lady GaGa has definitely helped hair and fashion be weird enough for a futuristic feel. xD (I'm hilarious.)
I thought there would definitely be more voice-command stuff going on. It's mostly just phones that have it. And even then, it doesn't work that great. I love hearing someone somewhere yelling,"Call Mom!!!" into their phone. Or saying "yes" over and over trying to get the dopey thing to recognize what they want. I also think it's funny that phones were getting smaller and smaller and now they're all kinda huge again so we can see movies on them. Hahaha. How sad that we need screens constantly - on our phone, in the car, on our ipod. Life is lackluster without the ability to watch some cartoons? Come, come, now. My parents had us look out the window. And if we got annoying there were little threats of arm-breakage or something. Besides, I'd get too carsick if I didn't look out the window. We'd play the license plate game or count horses or yell out different animals we saw. So, I find that sad. And that I'll see babies shaking their parents' phone and it making a rattling sound to distract them. Folks, we already had that. It's actually called a rattle. *facepalm*
No one shoot me, but I'm glad that the economy had some trouble. The poor folks (which included us at the time) were already poor and working crappy jobs, so we just kept dealing the way we had. But there were people in my city that had purchased like 3 houses to sell off a couple for profit, so many people had boats AND atv's AND 3 cars AND a huge entertainment system and so on and so on. People wanted what their parents worked all their lives for at 25. So, they went into massive debt to get it and tanked the economy. I like that hard work is starting to become honorable again. We must never lose that. If we lose the glory of working hard, we are lost.
Ok... I'll stop blathering on. One last thing: I was pretty sure I would have met Marvin the Martian by now. Bummer, y'all. Bummer.

A word that drives me crazy

Hm... I usually think of words that are awesome. Like rutabaga, zounds, puppy (it's fun to say), epiphany, dandelion, pomegranate... Lots of fun words. Ooh! Liquefaction is another good one. I love it.
But, one that drives me crazy... Nuclear. The reason it drives me crazy is because half the population can't seem to say it correctly. When someone says nukyuler it feels like my Dr. Hyder (get it? Ryder, Hyder rhyming instead of just Jeckell's Hyde?... yeah...) is going to come springing out and spell the word loudly for them and demand where they get the extra letters. I feel like the worst thing that happens in elementary school is that kids aren't forced to sound the word out. The idiot teaching them to read just tells the child the word instead of helping them sound it out and discover the word for themselves. Thus, people learn word-recognition so they just read that clump of word instead of the letters that make it up.
Wow. Little did I know I had some pent up frustration about a word. I may need to think about this more and release any other word-frustrations I'm not aware of. hahaha. ;)

My Favorite State

Well, I ended up seeing the exact same doctor as before. But, he seemed to be in a much better mood and helped me come up with a plan to scale down the medicine I'm on. He decided it would be best to prescribe a low dosage and I can scale down from 3 to 2 to 1 to a pill every other day, etc. Then I can either have the psychiatrist prescribe something new or I can go in and have this doctor prescribe it for me. It seems kind of pointless to see the psychiatrist now - we're pretty positive I have anxiety and my psychologist agrees. So, I might just have the doctor prescribe it - I've researched some and a friend of ours had very similar experiences to mine with two of the same medications as me (well, I've only tried two, but she's tried more) and the one she is currently taking helps her a lot and I had actually already been looking into that medication already. Anyway...

~My Favorite State~
I haven't spent much time in very many places, sadly. It's hard to know how living somewhere would be with just a visit. So, I think North Carolina is my favorite state so far. No offense to any readers, but I really hated Utah. Hot and dry then cold and dry with lots of snow. I like the moisture. Everyone told me I'd hate the heat paired with the humidity, but I like it better that way. It's less unbearable for me. Of course, in Utah my hands were always cracking and bleeding and I was getting nosebleeds a lot. Hahaha. Also, I didn't feel like I fit socially there. Here it feels a little bit more like everyone's just trying to get by, to live and let live. Living on a military base, so far, is less social than I'd expected. Everyone seems to try not to get attached or to be as much at a loss as to how to make friends after being relocated as I am. But, I love how much it rains here. I love the drizzly, cold winter. I love the warm slowly turning crisp autumn with the leaves gradually darkening and later dropping. I don't even mind the muggy, hot summer where everyone glistens a lot and sleeves are rarely seen. xD So, yup. I like it right here.

Reasons I Dislike My Name

I already missed a day. I kind of suck. Oh, wellz. Last night I was all nervous and distracted because I was going to need to see a psychiatrist today about the medications blah blah blah and then they gave us horrible directions and a crappy little map some idiot made on paint (instead of, I don't know, an ACTUAL map) which showed a turn in the wrong place so we went west instead of east for a while and then had to turn around and go all the way back (I had called and let them know we were having trouble finding it because of their directions) and then we were late and they decided that we would have to reschedule - and their earliest appointment is over a month away. I had fantasies involving slashing motions and red corn syrup while they printed a small reminder card for me in the top corner of a whole piece of paper. Before we were out of the parking lot I was on the phone with the stupid army doctor place making an appointment for today. This doctor will listen to me, even if I have to take the white coat away and wear it myself. (I've always fancied how I'd look in one of those. Dr. Tine, M.D... You must admit there's a ring to it...)

*ahem* ~Reasons I Dislike My Name~
The main reason I dislike my name is that it's also everyone else's name -- ALMOST. I've been called Kristin, Christina, Christy/Kristy/Kristi/Cristi/any other stupid spelling to make someone feel "individual," Christian, Christopher a couple of times (dark times, I must say)... I got so I answered to anything that starts with a cr/chr/kr sound. Also, I am always interrupted in the middle of my last name with, "Is that with a C or a K?" Ryder seemed easy but for some reason they look up Rider and Wrighter long before Ryder. And I have trouble pronouncing my own name. And the longer we're here the more southern Ryder sounds when I say it. So I try to un-south it and then I sound like I think they're stupid because I'm overpronouncing it like people that are uncomfortable around the elderly talk to someone's grandpa. I'm just gonna give in and south it forever. Just easier that way. Besides, some of my other words are doing the same thing... "five" and other words with that vowel sound, and I've added y'all to my vocabulary cause it just makes good sense. I hadn't realized my vocabulary was missing a word until the "y'all" crept into the open slot waiting for it... But I digress. My name is annoying. But, no one else but me answers to Tine. So, I think I'm much more fond of being Tine now than before writing this entry.
The blathering is cause of all the nervous energy I've already had today and how unfulfilled my slashing fantasy was.

Reasons I Like My Name

I meant the day after tomorrow I'd start... heh heh. Sorry 'bout that. Kittens are really distracting. I'd forgotten. We've been like, "That's why we used to keep furniture so close to the wall," and stuff like that. Cause she can fit anywhere and she DOES. Miles is still being kind of... a pansy. I'm thinking soon he'll forget to be a baby every time Zoe walks into the same room.

So: ~Reasons I Like My Name~
Hm... Well, I looked it up a while back and it means "christened one." That's kind of cool. It's always felt like an elegant name. Phantom of the Opera helped me like my name a lot more. And for a while my friends used to call me Pristine Christine, which was fun. I don't necessarily like that it can be shortened to Tine, but I'm getting used to it. ;) (After so many years around Brandon, I just started responding to it. Hahaha.) It's not a bad name. It's got me this far. =)

Day 30 D=

– A photograph of yourself today + three good things that have happened in the past 30 days.
Gr. So many pictures of myself must be taken. hahaha. Well, I do not feel so well today. It's not one of those days that I feel well enough to get all made up and cute and such. One of the side effects of the medicine is muscle tightness and it's been killing my shoulders. Other side effects are also sleeplessness and nightmares. I never seem to get past the REM stage to deep dreamless heavy sleep. I usually wake up tired. (Ironically, I'm listening to a song called Sleepless right now. xD ) The dose of the medication I'm on is too strong and is just making me more sick with each day. However, I shouldn't be ashamed of my everyday face, home in my beater and loungey pants (it's still fairly warm here). So, why not?

Ok... there you go. I'm blushing cause John walked in and saw me taking a picture of myself while he was getting ready for work. xD I'm like... oh, hey... Doh!
So, 3 good things that have happened in the past 30 days.
Firstly, I got to learn a lot more about my sister and my niece, which was a lot of fun. I really miss my family and doing this challenge with them has made me feel a lot closer to them. Second, I've become more comfortable with myself (obviously, with the sans make-up picture on here :S ) and more brave about being myself. And third, of course, now we have Zoe.

And so far we're making good progress with her and Miles. There is definitely less hissing when she goes sauntering in to see him. She's only growled back when he tried to take her tuna. That was crossing her line. Hahaha. So we had two little chewing-whilst-growling cats, which was entertaining. Miles even let me pet him this morning while I got him some new water. I think things are going to be ok. And Friday I finally get to see the psychiatrist about my medication. *dance dance dance*
This challenge has been so fun, I haven't really wanted it to be over. Well, Maren didn't either and she and her new husband, Brett, thought up 30 more things. =D So I'm going to do it with her. I'll be a little behind since I've missed a few days, but it's going to be fun.

Day 29 :3

First things first: I've been a little preoccupied with cats. Miles should really have done some Shakespeare in his time cause he just LOVES the drama. If John or I would walk into the room he's in, there would be hissing and screaming. So, today I went into our walk-in closet where he's camped out to hiss and growl to his furry little heart's content. I went and sat by him. He hissed and growled and screamed and hit me and bit me a little bit and made a big fuss. It was pretty fun to show no reaction. It's ok if he doesn't like Zoe, but he needs to calm down just a tad. Zoe has been so adorable. Happy as can be. Miles hisses and growls at her and she just keeps being normal - she's so used to other cats she's ok with it. This morning when we woke up she came walking in purring and just walked right into the closet to say good morning to Miles. He called her infernal and made clear she was unwelcome and described how he'd like to kill her and she said good morning and had a drink of his water - which she spilled accidentally - and walked back out. I found this hilarious. I do, of course, feel bad for Miley and miss him, but he needs to realize the only one making a problem is him and that he'll need to solve it himself.
Ok. On with regular business.

– Something you could never get tired of doing.
Well, I was going to say being with cats is something I could never get tired of doing. But between the older one's drama and the younger one's need to play with computer cables I'd like to put one in the closet and one in the other office and close the doors and take a long bubble bath. xD
So something I actually think I could never get tired of doing is making music. Singing or playing the piano or what have you. I haven't played the piano much at all here and I miss it so much. It's always been such therapy for me. (So, it's a pretty good thing I'm in therapy now. Hahaha.) But, singing with my ipod is always fun. Laying on the couch with my headphones in and singing along with Lovedrug or Until June and just feeling better. There's music for every emotion. When we're headed to therapy to see Regina, I always play my fastest bounciest music because I'm nervous (no idea why I get nervous cause I always have a delightful time). Singing in the car feels the most free, though. Cause you can really unleash and sing as loud and off-key as you want. (Except sitting at a stoplight - I've heard other people singing so I know I could be heard. High speeds on the highway or freeway are best for such belting.) I'm singing with Until June even now as I type. =) I never get tired of it.
